Retirees and Annuitants: 2020 Tax Year Statements
2020 tax statements for retirees are available in myPay as of Dec. 15, 2020
2020 tax statements for annuitants are available in myPay as of Dec. 19, 2020
Tax statements sent through the U.S. Postal Service were mailed no later than Feb 1, 2021. In many cases, the electronic online forms are available much earlier and more securely than those sent to customers electing delivery by mail.
1099-R Reissues can be sent beginning February 10, 2021. Did you know we have convenient options for requesting a 1099-R reissue without calling our call center? CLICK HERE to find out how!
Please note: IRS Form 1095-B will only be available online via myPay, unless a request is received for a copy by mail. CLICK HERE to request a 1095-B by mail.
According to the IRS, these forms are not required to prepare or file income tax returns..
As required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), DFAS continues to provide IRS Forms 1095-B or 1095-C via individual myPay accounts. These forms are created for military, retiree and federal civilian employees who receive healthcare insurance coverage through Tricare or Federal Employee Health Benefit programs.
Retirees: Corrected Print 1099-Rs in the mail as of February 1
For retirees who receive their 1099-R statements through the mail: corrected print 2020 1099-Rs with the correct Payer's FIN are in the mail, as of February 1. Use this corrected 2020 1099-R with the Payer’s FIN of 34-0727612 when filing your taxes.
Please consider current postal travel times when anticipating the delivery of your corrected 1099-R. You can also download a correct 2020 IRS 1099-R from myPay. It is available now. See the Managing Your Retirement - Taxes webpage for more information.
Note: 2020 Retiree IRS 1099-Rs mailed in early January contained a Payer's Federal Identification Number (FIN) that is missing the last digit because of a printing error. The correct Payer's FIN is: 34-0727612. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The Payer's FIN on the annuitant 1099-Rs is correct.
SBP-DIC Offset Phased Elimination - 2021 Phase One
Some spouse SBP annuitants will see an increase in the SBP annuity payment they receive during phase one. Some spouse SBP annuitants will not see a change in phase one of the SBP-DIC Offset Phased Elimination. You DO NOT need to call DFAS to tell us you are affected by the change in the law. See our full range of FAQs.
*Note: the change in the law does NOT affect the amount of DIC you receive from the VA. You should continue to receive your normal DIC amount from the VA.*
DFAS mailed individual letters in December with estimates of how the first phase of the SBP-DIC Offset Phased Elimination (effective January 1, 2020) will affect your SBP pay during 2021. Please do not call our Customer Care Center for your estimate. **Click here to download a helpful explanation of the estimates in the 2020 letter**
