Paying by check

If you send us a check, it will be converted into an electronic funds transfer (EFT). This means we will copy your check and use the account information to electronically debit your account for the amount of the check. The debit from your account will usually occur within 24 hours, and will show on your regular account statement.

You will not receive your original check back. We will destroy your original check and keep a copy. If the EFT cannot be processed for technical reasons, you authorize us to process the copy in place of your original check. If the EFT cannot be completed because of insufficient funds, we may try to make the transfer again and charge your account a one-time $15.00 administrative fee.

Payment processing

If paying by check or money order, we recommend you mail your payment promptly in order to allow time for processing.  Please include your account number on your check or money order to ensure your payment is applied to your account.

Interest:
Your account statement will reflect the interest rate for your debt. Interest will accrue on the unpaid principal balance 30 days after the initial debt notification date.

Administrative Fees:
A $15.00 administrative fee will be assessed biannually as a charge for DFAS handling your account

Penalty Charges:
Penalty Charges equal to 6 percent of the unpaid principal balance will accrue on your account if there are no payments received within 121 days of the initial debt notification date.
