Gray Area Retirees – Navy Reserve


How to Stay Connected During the Gray Area
Gray Area Retirees can now stay connected and informed between the time they stop drilling and the time they start receiving retired pay. It’s a new kind of myPay account created especially for Gray Area Retirees.
 

  • If you have not been notified to apply for retired pay within six months prior to your 60th birthday, please see the MyNavy HR website https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Career-Management/Reserve-Personnel-Mgmt/Reserve-Retirements and scroll down to the section “Applying for Retirement with pay” or contact the My Navy Career Center at 1-833-330-6622.

  • If you received a Notice of Eligibility (NOE) letter stating you have completed 20 qualifying years of service or you completed 20 qualifying years of service without any adverse actions prior to discharge that would prevent you from being eligible for retired (but do not remember receiving an NOE letter), you are eligible for retired pay as a former member (refer to BUPERSINST 1001.39F).
     

If you have questions about your entitlement to retired pay:

Attending one of PERS-912 Retirement Transition Outreach (RTO) briefs is encouraged to ensure all your questions or concerns are answered. Briefs will include representatives from Tricare and FEDVIP (Dental), including illustrating the process from preparing for a transfer to the Gray Area (at least 20 qualifying years of service) up to a point for a non-regular retirement (age 60).  Please visit and register to one of the FY-24 briefs at https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Career-Management/Reserve-Personnel-Mgmt/Reserve-Retirements/Retirement-Transition-Outreach/
