CRSC and CRDP Open Season

Open season for Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) and Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC) ends Feb. 15, 2014.  During open season, military retirees who are eligible for both payments can choose the one they want.

If you qualify to participate in open season, you’ll receive a letter and an election form in the mail.
How to Choose
When making your choice, you should consider the benefit amount as well as taxability. CRDP is taxable if your retired pay is taxable, but CRSC is always tax-free.

Also consider any deductions your monthly payment may be subject to.

Possible CRDP deductions include:

  • Former Spouse payments
  • Garnishments
  • Debts

Possible CRSC deductions include:

  • Garnishments
  • Debts

For more details about the differences between CRDP and CRSC, take a look at our comparison chart.

If you have questions about how your election will affect your taxes, please contact your financial advisor or a tax professional. We cannot give tax advice.

How to Submit Election

If you’re changing your benefit, complete your election form and return it to DFAS .  Envelopes must be postmarked by Feb. 15, 2014. If postmarked after this date, the form will not be processed and your current payments will continue.

Forms should only be submitted if you are making a change.
