Change to Survivor Benefit Plan Annuity Accounts
Beginning in August 2013, we will no longer be able to establish Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity accounts or make SBP payments to annuitants without a valid Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
The ITIN is issued by the Internal Revenue Service and is used by annuitants who are not citizens of the United States or who cannot obtain a Social Security Number.
To avoid delays in payment to your loved ones, all retirees are encouraged to ensure their beneficiaries have the required identification number.
Existing annuitants impacted by this change will be notified by mail. Back to the March Newsletter
