Shawn B. McCracken, Deputy Director, DFAS Indianapolis
 
Shawn McCracken is the Deputy Director of Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) Indianapolis, effective January 2023. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the federal government’s third largest building and over 4,100 federal employees across the globe who provide a range of finance and accounting services to the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Veterans Administration, and 26 U.S. Defense Agencies.

Prior to this assignment, Mr. McCracken was the Director, DFAS Rome and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Rome site. He was responsible for leading 1,000+/- DFAS employees who provide accounting and finance support to the Army, directing the DFAS Accounting Center of Excellence for Army and Navy medical support, and overseeing accounting services for the United States Special Operations Command.

Prior to assuming his role as DFAS Rome Director, Mr. McCracken served as Director, Assessment, Analysis and Assignment in the Information Technology organization and has previously served in positions as Deputy Site Director, Limestone; Director of Accounting, Indianapolis; Director of Audit Readiness, Indianapolis; and various positions at DFAS Columbus.

Mr. McCracken is recognized as a leader with demonstrated operational acumen who led significant and diverse operations to exceed DFAS and Department of Defense performance goals. He is responsible for driving significant cost reductions and efficiency improvements as well as increased team empowerment and accountability to secure desired results. He also ensured successful delivery of efficient, exceptional quality payment and accounting/financial services and information. Mr. McCracken has proven himself a highly flexible leader, delivering tangibles that have far exceeded expectations by adapting to ever-changing priorities and deadlines.

Mr. McCracken’s federal government career began in 1993, a span of 30 years in consistent service to DFAS. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from DeVry University and holds designations as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM). Mr. McCracken strongly believes effective teamwork, team engagement, and employee empowerment are critical elements of a successful organization.
