Assistance With Two-Factor Authentication

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

You will be required to set up two-factor authentication when logging in to myPay the first time. It requires you to request and input a one-time PIN when you log in to your myPay account with a login ID and password. This adds an extra layer of security to your myPay account.

CAC/PIV smart card login is another form of two-factor authentication and after initial setup, smart card users will not be asked to enter an additional PIN.

Where will my one-time PIN be sent?

When prompted to enable two-factor authentication, you will be asked to select a preferred contact method (text, email, or authenticator app). Your preferred contact method must be verified by receiving and inputting a one-time PIN.

To review and update your methods for receiving a one-time PIN, visit the Personal Settings menu along the top of the myPay
website and select “Two-Factor Authentication.”

Using an Authenticator App with Two-Factor Authentication

If you have a smartphone, you can set up an authenticator app which does not rely on the delivery of PINs through email servers or cell networks. The authenticator app will generate a PIN to input into myPay. For those who have not used authenticator apps before, we recommend doing a little online research on how they work and which ones provide the services each individual user needs or wants. There are numerous reputable authenticator apps available by searching for "authenticator app" on your smartphone's app store.

How to add an Authenticator App to your myPay Two-Factor Authentication settings

If you are already enrolled in two-factor authentication, you can add an authenticator app to your profile for future use. Once you have chosen and installed an authenticator app on your device, follow our guide on how to add an authenticator app to your myPay two-factor authentication or visit How To Use An Authenticator App on YouTube.

Keep email and phone accounts away from cyber threats

Be sure to secure your personal information from cyber threats.  Developing good habits such as changing email and smartphone passwords and using authenticator apps  can prevent unwanted access to your online accounts. To learn more, visit myPay Account Protection & Security.

After an email account or phone number has been hijacked, email and text messages can be intercepted, including those providing two-factor authentication one-time PINs. Developing habits to change email and smartphone passwords and codes can help foul attempts to access your online accounts that can cost you money and the grief of trying to recover from identity theft.
