The United States Air Force is a trusted, reliable partner to the other services and is known for integrity in all of its activities, including supporting the Joint mission first and foremost. The Air Force provides compelling air, space and cyber capabilities for use by the combatant commanders. The Air Force excels as stewards of all Air Force resources in service to the American people, while providing precise and reliable global vigilance, reach and power for the nation.

 

DFAS successfully supports the Air Force accomplishment of their mission by ensuring the individual airmen and Air Force civilian receive their proper pay and entitlements, paying for equipment, weapons, systems and supplies, funding training and combat deployments and the subsequent accounting of all disbursed funds.

A little history

Aug. 1, 1907, the U.S. Army Signal Corps formed an Aeronautical division. This action came only three-and-a-half years after the Wright brothers flew the world's first powered airplane at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The Army Reorganization Act of 1920 made the Air Service a combat arm of the Army, and the Air Corps Act of 1926 changed its name to the Air Corps July 2 of that year. U.S. Air Force won its independence as a full partner with the Army and the Navy Sept. 18, 1947, which now serves as the official birthday of the Air Force.

Did you know…The Air Force Financial Services Center at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, works closely with DFAS to provide Air Force military and travel pay customer service 24/7 to airmen around the globe.
