Edna Knight, Director, Office of Audit ReadinessMrs. Edna Knight is the Director, Office of Audit Readiness for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. Mrs. Knight provides enterprise-wide oversight and guidance for DFAS’ support to the Department of Defense audit readiness goals by providing the framework within which DFAS executes actions to support the Department’s audit readiness goals by ensuring DFAS services are ready for an independent audit.
Prior to assuming her current position in 2012, Mrs. Knight was the Director of DFAS Indianapolis and responsible for 4,000 federal employees involved in accounting, disbursing, vendor pay, military pay, contract pay, and travel pay mission areas that support the Department of Defense. She served as the Client Executive for the U.S. Army, U.S. Special Operations Command and selected Defense Agencies. In this capacity she was responsible for the delivery of all DFAS services and for providing the best value possible considering customer requirements, effectiveness of business practices, and cost.
From 2006 to 2008, Mrs. Knight was the Deputy Director Standards, Standards and Compliance, responsible for developing finance and accounting goals and standards, analyzing operational results, and enabling DFAS to provide world class service to its customers.
Previously, Ms. Knight was the Deputy Director for DFAS Indianapolis, where she supported the Director for Accounting Services for the U.S. Army in delivery of all DFAS services, including the central disbursement of over $54 billion annually to Army and Defense Agencies. Her responsibilities also included oversight of eight DFAS field site organizations. She joined the ranks of the Senior Executive Service (SES) in July 2003 with her appointment to DFAS Indianapolis.
Prior to her SES appointment, Ms. Knight served as the Director of Financial Management Systems and Director for Financial Reports and Reconciliation for the USDA Forest Service. Various other positions in her Federal career have been with the U.S. Customs Service and the Internal Revenue Service where she began her career as an intern.
Mrs. Knight holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and an associate's degree in data processing from the University of Indianapolis. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) and a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
