Audrey Y. Davis, DFAS Principal Deputy DirectorAudrey Y. Davis was appointed the Principal Deputy Director in December 2011. In this capacity she assists the Director, Defense Finance and Accounting Service in overseeing the day-to-day accounting and finance activities of the Department of Defense (DoD). DFAS employs about 12,000 DoD civilian and military personnel at 10 locations throughout the United States, Europe and the Pacific. Each year, the agency disburses over $579 billion by processing 161.8 million pay transactions to 6.6 million military personnel, federal civilian employees, military retirees and annuitants; 10.3 million commercial invoices, and 6 million travel vouchers and settlements. Responsible for 1,232 active DoD appropriations, DFAS is the trust fund manager for $403 billion in foreign military sales and $700 billion in military retirement and health benefit funds. Each year, it maintains more than 270.4 million general ledger accounts containing billions of transactions and handles accounts for worldwide operations and multi-disciplined appropriations of DoD.

Ms. Davis previously served as the Deputy Director, Air Force Staff, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. In that capacity she assisted the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff in executing the responsibilities of the office, to include performing high-level projects according to policies, goals and objectives. She also assisted in Air Staff organization and administration to support the Air Force's mission.

Ms. Davis began her federal career as a Presidential Management Intern with the U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command where she trained and gained experience as a computer programmer analyst. After completing her internship in 1987, Ms. Davis accepted a computer security specialist position with the U.S. Department of State, establishing the department's computer Security Test Facility and serving as its Program Manager. Ms. Davis entered the private sector in 1990, focusing on computer system development, programming and redesign until her return to public service in 1992.

Ms. Davis has held a variety of information technology positions within the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, culminating as Chief Information Officer and Director, Information and Technology. From May 2007 to November 2008 she was assigned as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Operations and Financial Management Chief Information Officer. From November 2008 to January 2010 she was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Operations, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Financial Management and Comptroller, Headquarters U.S. Air Force.
