Military Personnel Assignments at DFAS
How can I volunteer for an assignment with DFAS?
Army: Officers and enlisted will have to request a DA Form 4187 (Personnel Action Request) from their servicing orderly rooms, Personnel Administration Center or Personnel Service Branch, depending on where you are stationed. For example, you might be stationed at a Battalion level, Brigade level, etc. Both officer and enlisted personnel have to be released from their old duty station by the Commander. The completed DA Form 4187 is used by PERSCOM to make your job/assignment selection. Most Army officers have the opportunity to choose the assignment they want and it is usually approved. Assignment selection for enlisted is based on the needs of the Army first. All Army personnel should ensure their records are updated.
Navy: For both officers and enlisted contact your occupational specialty detailer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Several avenues are available to you including telephone and the Internet.
MarineCorps: Personnel can make requests known to their Career Planners, or submit a written request via chain of command to the assignments branch at HQMC/MMEA for enlisteds and HQMC/MMOA for officers.
Air Force: Enlisted assignments within DFAS are controlled by HQ Air Force Personnel Center. These requirements are usually advertised through EQUAL-Plus and filled by application. The EQUAL-Plus listing may be viewed at the Military Personnel Flight. Volunteers may apply through their MPF.
