Army
The Army's mission is to fight and win our nation's wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and range of conflict in support of combatant commanders.
DFAS successfully supports the Army’s accomplishment of their mission by ensuring the individual soldiers and Army civilians receive their proper pay and entitlements, paying for equipment, weapons, systems and supplies, funding training and combat deployments and the subsequent accounting of all disbursed funds.

A little history…
June 14, 1775 Congress adopted "the American continental army" after reaching a consensus position in The Committee of the Whole. Theresolution stated:
“Resolved, That six companies of expert riflemen, be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; that each company consist of a captain, three lieutenants, four sergeants, four corporals, a drummer or trumpeter, and sixty-eight privates. That each company, as soon as completed, shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army.”
The next day, June 15, 1775, the Continental Congress named George Washington as Commander of the Continental Army. June 14 is designated as the official birthday of the U.S. Army.
Did you know… DFAS has 43 Defense Military Pay Offices (DMPOs) located at various Army installations. DMPOs are co-located with the military members they serve and are an integral liaison between the Soldier and DFAS.
