NDAA
2008:
The NDAA 2008
contained a number of provisions applicable to active duty and
retired military personnel. Three of the major enhancements for
retiree and annuitant members are summarized
below.
-
Section 641
-
Section 642
-
Section 644

Update on CRSC/CRDP:
A major
milestone was achieved in June 2008 when the
133,057 original retroactive CRSC or CRDP claims the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) identified
in September 2006 were completed. The initial target completion
date of November 2007 was not met due to the complexity of many of
the claims coupled with the need to reconcile
data from disparate data sources that made the manual adjudication
of these claims very difficult and time consuming.

Contact Center Upgrade:
A
redesign enhancement was made to the
Integrated Voice Response System (IVRS) that has streamlined the
menu options for our customers and has broadened the scope of the
speech functionality of the IVRS. Previously,
speech recognition was very basic. Now, callers may speak their
responses through the entire first leg of the IVRS script (or press
the appropriate phone button).

Souvenir Munitions
Safety:
Civilians who are unaware of the danger associated with
military munitions, or military personnel who have ignored it,
often find and keep munitions as souvenirs. Some proudly display
these munitions, giving easy access to family members and children;
others have put them away and long since forgotten their existence.
