The National Defense Authorization
Act of 2008 was signed into law by the President George W. Bush on
January 28, 2008.
The
Act authorized funding for the defense of the United States and its
interests abroad. Among many of provisions of the Act are sections
related to the care of military retirees and their
families.
Two
sections, 641 and 642, specifically relate to the compensation of
military retirees. As a result of these new statutes, DFAS is
responsible for facilitating the payments based on input from the
respective military services when applicable.
