To expedite handling and ensure a prompt response, include the name and social security number of both the annuitant/VSI beneficiary and deceased member on all correspondence, including faxes.
Account Statement:
Once an annuity is established annuitants will receive an account statement showing the amount of annuity payable. A statement will be issued each time changes are made to the account and will state the reason for the change.
Address Changes:
It is critical that retirees inform DFAS of changes in your correspondence and mailing addresses to ensure prompt receipt of important documents. Some of these documents include Retiree Account Statements and Federal tax forms. In addition, by providing DFAS with a current correspondence address, you will continue to receive your service's retiree newsletter: Army Echoes (Army), Shift Colors (Navy), Semper Fi (Marine Corps) and Afterburner (Air Force).
To avoid having to wait for mail delivery, retirees can check their account statements quickly and easily on
myPay
, a Web-based pay account system. Retirees can access this program from anywhere and virtually anytime through a personal computer.

Social Security Number:
Annuitants who do not have a valid SSN must obtain one as soon as possible. If the annuitant does not have a SSN and is a resident of the United States, one may be obtained from the nearest Social Security Administration office.
