By state law, the courts, child support agencies, or attorneys are required to provide a copy of the court order to the debtor, obligor. Now Congress has passed legislation to establish a 3-year pilot program that authorizes DoD to eliminate the requirement for DFAS to provide an additional copy of garnishment court orders for cases involving child support, alimony and civilian commercial garnishments.

If you did not receive your copy from the initiating agent, you may request a copy of the court order from DFAS-DGG/CL. The request may only be made by the member or employee being garnished. Court order copies will only be mailed to the member's/employee's address in the DFAS system.

Your request for a copy of a court order must be made within 30 days of the date of your notification letter.

If you have further questions after you receive your copy of the court order, contact Garnishment Customer Service at 1-888-DFAS-411 or 1-888-332-7411.
