DFAS Retired Pay Newsletter

Accessing the myPay System is Safe and Convenient

Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is proud of its core values of integrity, innovation and service moving to become a world-class provider of finance and accounting services. To lead the way in operational excellence, all customers who receive payments from DFAS are encouraged to become active members of myPay.

The myPay system is a safe and protected system allowing the user the ability to monitor and make some adjustments to their Retired or Annuity Pay Account.  As a myPay user, customers have the ability to start, stop or change allotments that are electronically sent to banking institutions.  They can also start, stop or change both federal and state tax withholding.  myPay users can also review their Retired Account Statements as frequently as they desire.

DFAS is committed to protecting the information and privacy of their customers.  myPay manages the flow of personal information with 128-bit secure socket layer encryption and firewalls.  This secure technology meets or exceeds security requirements in private industry worldwide.  DFAS has also incorporated the following directive in all of its operational practices:

  • DFAS does not sell customer information.
  • DFAS does not share personal information with persons, companies or organizations outside of DFAS.  Information sharing with other government agencies (for example, Department of Veterans Affairs) is limited to the extent required to properly maintain accounts, or as legally required.
  • DFAS requires persons or organizations that provide services on the agency’s behalf to keep personal information confidential.
  • All employees are continually reminded of the need to protect personal information.  Safeguards (physical, electronic and procedural) are established and updated to protect this information.  Even customer service centers and the online electronic information request forms require account holders to verify their identity before conducting any official business.

To obtain access to the myPay system, visit https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx and click the New PIN button.  The user will be asked to provide their Social Security number and a new random temporary PIN will be mailed or e-mailed (if available) to the user.  If mailed, please allow 10 to 14 working days to receive the temporary PIN.  Military retirees who request or already have a myPay PIN and access the myPay system are consenting to receive only electronic 1099R and Retired Account Statements at the end of the year.

Former spouse recipients have minimal access at this time. Voluntary Separation Incentive, Reserve Special Separation Program, or Victims of Abuse recipients do not have access.
