DFAS Retired Pay Newsletter

CRDP/CRSC Open Season continues

Who it’s for…

Retirees who are eligible for both CRDP and CRSC.

What it’s for…

The annual CRDP/CRSC Open Season lets eligible retirees choose which payment they would prefer to receive (federal law states that retirees can receive CRDP or CRSC; not both). Beginning in late December, eligible retirees will be mailed a CRDP/CRSC Open Season Election Form. Mailing of CRDP/CRSC Open Season election forms to eligible retirees began in late December.

When to use it…

This is a “passive” Open Season, which means that retirees only need to return the form if they want to change from CRDP to CRSC, or vice versa. In other words, if a retiree is receiving CRDP now and would prefer to receive CRSC instead, he or she must complete and return the form. Likewise, if the retiree is receiving CRSC now and would prefer to receive CRDP instead, a completed form must be sent to DFAS (see below for details).

If a retiree prefers to keep things the way they are, he or she does nothing.

To help retirees make a more informed decision, the form will include a comparison of the amounts to which they would be entitled under CRDP and CRSC as well as information about the collection actions and taxes to which each type of payment is subject.

If a retiree wants to change from CRDP to CRSC or vice versa, the completed form must be received at DFAS by January 31st. Forms received after this date it will not be processed and the payments now received will continue uninterrupted.

The change in payment will be effective on the first business day of February. Due to DFAS’ 30-day processing timeframe, some retirees may receive their first payment on the first business day of March, and a retroactive adjustment for the payment which would have been paid on the first business day of February.

How to complete it…

Retirees wishing to change from CRDP to CRSC (or vice versa) must complete the election form by checking the appropriate box, signing, and dating the form. If a retiree prefers to keep things the way they are, no action is required and the payments now receive will continue uninterrupted.

Where to send it…

Fax the completed form to (800) 469-6559 or mail it to:
