DFAS Retired Pay Newsletter

End of the Year Statements

As mentioned in a previous issue, Military Retirees and Annuitants are asked to review their retired or annuity pay accounts to ensure all their information is up-to-date. In order for DFAS to properly maintain your account and provide the best customer service, it is extremely important that you inform us of any change (e.g. change of address, bank information, beneficiaries, etc).  Address verification is one of the questions used by the Customer Service Representatives in the Customer Service Center to validate the identity of the caller.  The last date to make changes to your account for end-of-year statements is November 19, 2006.  If your mailing address changes after this date, please be sure to file a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service.  Self-servicing your account through myPay is an excellent way to affect timely updates and control input.  When you access the myPay system you are consenting to receive electronic Retiree Account Statements (RAS), along with your 1099R at the end of the year.  We highly recommend the electronic method of receipt because it is the quickest and most secure compared to hardcopy U.S. mail receipt.  You simply access your account information and print as many copies as you need.

However, if you want to receive your end-of-year statements issued as hardcopy you can:

1)      Call the Retired and Annuity Pay Customer Service Center @ 1-800-321-1080 and request hardcopy statements; or

2)      Access https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx.   Please ensure that your correspondence address is correct. You will then find access to ‘Turn on/off Hard Copy of Annual RAS’ under the heading of Retired Account Statement.  Access to ‘Turn on/off Hard Copy of 1099R’ can be found under the heading of Taxes.  Once accessed, you will be provided an option to change how you receive your RAS and 1099R.

Changes to much of a retiree’s pay account can be made via myPay or by calling the Retired/Annuitant Customer Service Center at 1-800-321-1080.  Retirees may also send an email via myPay or by regular mail to:
