Senior Executive Service (SES): Positions within the Executive Branch formerly classified as GS 16, 17, 18 and Executive levels IV or V which do not require senate confirmation. Non-supervisory positions are not included unless they include significant policy-making responsibilities.

Rate of Pay: There are six rates of Basic Pay for SES employees. The minimum rate of basic pay is 120% of GS 15 step 1, and the maximum is Level IV of the Executive Schedule. The President may adjust these rates when adjustments are made to the GS scales.
