Voluntary Early Retirement Authority (VERA)

VERA eligibility is applicable under both the CSRS and FERS retirement systems. Early retirement benefits are available in certain involuntary separation cases and in cases of voluntary separations during a major reorganization or reduction in force . To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

Years of Service
50
20
Any age
25

CSRS employees: Retirement annuity commences the first day following your separation date. Your annuity is reduced by 2% for each year you are under age 55.

FERS employees: Retirement annuity commences the first day following your separation date. There is no age reduction.
