How to Apply
DFAS job announcements are posted on the Office
of Personnel Management's website,
USAJOBS
. You can use the USAJOBS search features to locate
jobs of interest. Once you find a job you'd like to apply for, you
should perform the following steps:
Determine if you are eligible to apply. Look on
the first page of the job announcement under "Who May Be
Considered" for a description of those who are within the
area of consideration
. If the
"Who May Be Considered" is anything other than "All United States
Citizens", you must also determine if you have
appointment eligibility
.
If you find you are eligible to be considered AND
within the area of consideration, you must then determine if you
meet all of the qualification requirements for the position. To do
this, click on the "Qualifications" tab on the job announcement. On
this page, you'll find a detailed description of the required
experience and/or education requirements for the position. You must
meet ALL eligibility and qualification requirements in order to
receive consideration. For positions in professional and
administrative series, professional
credentials and certifications are also used in the applicant
selection process, so read about that as well.
If you find you meet all of the job requirements,
then click on the "How to Apply" tab for application instructions.
When you select the "Apply Online" button at the bottom of the
vacancy announcement, you will be directed to the MY USAJOBS
webpage to log in or create an account, if you do not have one.
Once you log in, the instructions will direct you to the
appropriate system where you will complete and submit your
application.
DFAS is currently in the process of transitioning to
a new system for managing on-line applications. No matter which
system you use, follow the instructions listed in the vacancy
announcement and in the on-line system to submit a complete
application.
