As an employer of choice, we promote professional development of our employees by extending financial assistance for college and university courses and professional certifications. We also encourage lifelong learning through eLearning, developmental assignments and our mentoring and coaching program.
DFAS Competitive Civilian Academic Degree Program
Through the DFAS Competitive Civilian Academic Degree Program (CCADP) you have the opportunity to earn an undergraduate or a graduate degree in a mission-related field. This program funds tuition, required textbooks and course-related fees leading to the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree. Tuition reimbursement is capped at the cost per credit hour at local public or state-supported accredited institutions of higher education.
Tuition Assistance Program
We provide tuition assistance for college courses that are determined to be job or mission-related. We fund the tuition, required textbooks and course-related fees for approved courses. Tuition reimbursement is capped at the cost per credit hour at local public or state-supported accredited institutions of higher education. Employees may receive tuition assistance for up to 4 courses per fiscal year from colleges on a semester credit hour system, or 6 courses per fiscal year from colleges on a quarter hour credit hour system, subject to availability of funds.
Professional Certifications
As a professional organization, DFAS strongly encourages employees to pursue professional certifications key to their career field such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Project Management Professional (PMP), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Software Project Manager (CSPM), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Oracle Master, Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA), etc. We support our employees in this endeavor by paying for review courses and reimbursing examination fees, license and certification fees, and renewal fees. Subject to supervisor approval and mission requirements, time off may be provided to take the examinations. Professional certifications contribute to both the systematic development and enhanced job performance of our civilian workforce.
eLearning Technology
DFAS is increasing the availability of learning materials to employees via web-based applications accessible from the desktop. We have teamed up with SkillSoft to offer thousands of web-based training courses, job aids, and briefings in a wide range of technical and professional development topics. These courses are offered free of charge to our employees. The courses can be accessed by DFAS employees from any computer with an internet connection 24 hours a day. DFAS also offers a collection of over 250 eBooks which are full-text electronic versions of published books that can be searched and read over the Internet. An online collection of over 1,500 journals, magazines, and newspapers focusing on a variety of U.S." business interests, computers, and information technology are also available to DFAS employees.
Developmental Assignments
Developmental Assignments include assignments to new positions that provide employee opportunities to learn new skills and perform different types of work. This work-based learning approach occurs when: the learning is acquired in the midst of action and dedicated to a specific work task; knowledge creation and utilization are collective activities and thus involve interpersonal communication; and participants adopt a learning-to-learn mentality which includes questioning core assumptions that drive actions.
Mentoring
DFAS offers an avenue for employees to share their wisdom, knowledge, and experience through a mentoring and coaching program. Participation is voluntary and employees can become involved through a mentoring system located on the web.
