Comprehensive Compensation Package

Man climbing stacks of coins

At DFAS, we are committed to encouraging and rewarding extraordinary contributions to our corporate mission. So, we developed compensation programs that recognize and reward employees for their achievements.

Employees can receive regular salary increases for above average performance and can quickly earn substantially more than the starting salary. Salaries are based on a normal 40-hour workweek, and any approved overtime work for eligible employees is compensated at 1-1/2 times the rate of basic pay. Additionally, extraordinary employee contributions are rewarded through different awards programs.

DFAS - National Security Personnel System (NSPS)

NSPS is a compensation program designed to promote and support a results oriented culture that recognizes and rewards employees according to individual and organization performance. NSPS is comprised of career groups where work is separated into pay schedules covering basic categories of work such as technician, professional, and supervisory work. Within each pay schedule there are broad pay bands that incorporate salary ranges for different levels of work. View the NSPS Pay Table for your potential career group schedule.

General Schedule (GS) System

The GS System is a pay system used to set pay for employees who work in positions classified in the administrative, clerical, professional and technical occupational categories. The GS system has 15 grade levels and each grade level has a salary range of ten steps. Employees can advance to a higher step within the grade if they meet time and performance requirements.
In addition, Federal government pay is locality based. There are 31 metropolitan locality pay areas and a "rest of the U.S." locality for everywhere else within the contiguous 48 states. Individuals working at overseas locations do not receive locality pay but may receive other allowances. View the OPM Pay Table for your location's salary scale.
