Join DFAS and become a member of an exciting team of select individuals chosen to account for the billions of dollars spent by the Department of Defense (DoD) annually. Enter a world where your efforts as an accountant are relied upon by a wide range of important recipients -- from our Warfighters around the globe to the President of the United States. You will be assigned tasks and projects varying in scope and complexity to develop your skills and professional accounting knowledge while administering, overseeing, and delivering products and services for DoD decision makers.
As an accountant for DFAS, you will prepare, examine, analyze and interpret DoD financial data, records and standardized reports. You will apply generally accepted accounting principles and advise management on a diverse collection of Federal accounting and financial management matters. Your work will include operating, maintaining and modifying information within federal financial accounting systems and aiding in the design, development, and inspection of those systems according to the Federal law and guidance. As an expert in the accounting field you will have the opportunity to perform research, identify problem areas, determine actions to improve program effectiveness, and propose new procedures and methods.
Training will be provided in the form of on-the-job or formal training in case management where you will gain knowledge of Federal accounting and finance. You will also have the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree and your Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification.
