The Defense Finance and Accounting Service-Limestone was activated January 1995 as part of the consolidation of service finance and accounting operations.

Currently directed by Wayne C. Ingle, DFAS Limestone is located in the heart of New England's largest county, Aroostook County, Maine. Through state-of-the-art technology and highly trained and motivated employees, DFAS Limestone provides premier base-level finance and accounting services to its customers. These services include appropriated funds accounting and reporting, vendor pay, working capital funds accounting and reporting, travel accounting, and accounts receivable.

DFAS Limestone services all the operational Air Force. Its customers include Air Combat Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Air Education and Training Command, Air Mobility Command, the Air Force District of Washington, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Air Force Reserve Command, Pacific Air Forces, and U.S. Transportation Command. Also included among its customers are 81 Air National Guard Units.

DFAS Limestone's responsibility covers an area stretching from Afghanistan in the east to Hawaii in the west and includes 14 time zones.
